Feb. 22, 2023 Council Meeting:Testimony re: Miyasato Nomination to the WPC
Aloha Council Members,
I wish to share my opposition and concerns regarding Mayor Roth's nomination of Miles Miyasato to the WPC.
I submitted testimony to the WPC regarding Mr. Miyasato's nomination to the WPC and I was encouraged to hear that a
majority of the WPC Councilors voted against recommending his nomination.
I ask you to follow the WPC recommendation and vote against this nomination. I hold nothing personal against Mr.
Miyasato, however I believe that Mayor Roth can and should find a more suitable candidate for this important position.
The WPC needs commissioners that will respect and represent the residents of the Hamakua, and in particular those
community members of the CDP committee who worked for years to develop a COMMUNITY Development Plan that
DOES represent the residents and their priorities, concerns, and best interest.
I am deeply disappointed in the numerous efforts and actions by Mayor Roth and Planning Director Zendo Kern-to
sideline, undermine, and reject the CDPs and those who invested hours and years to develop them in an open,
democratic manner to suit community needs and interests.
Mr. Miyasoto has demonstrated, and appears to have, similar disregard and intent. As such he is not suitable for this
position.
