Aloha Heather,
Just want to add to my testimony about Mr. Miyasato. You had a couple of very good questions to him for starters. His first
response was not good,and your follow up was a bit leading in suggesting to him that the CDP be a guide,even though he
should have known that. His response was not very definitive and lacked substance. It was apparent to me that he recognizes
that the CDP does exist, but gives me no confidence that he feels it's important and a primary guide for the future
development of our community. This is really important to me personally and many of the good citizens of our district,
especially those who spent considerable time developing it.The pressure to develop and subdivide our beautiful coast will
increase with increasing land values. His comment about his friend not being able to subdivide his property into ten lots was
very telling. Not only is he affected by special interest, but subdividing legally can't be assigned to relatives. Once subdivided,
those lots can be sold to anyone. Maybe a mainlander buying them to build more STVR's. We need to start looking at serious
controls on the entire Big Island guided by CDP's and not friendships or connections. Culture and community are built into the
CDP. It's all covered. Maybe he hasn't read it. Good question to ask him.
I respectfully urge you to reject this nomination.
