Comm. 73: NOMINATION OF CHANTEL PERRIN TO THE WINDWARD PLANNING COMMISSION. From
Mayor Mitchell D. Roth, dated January 20, 2023, requesting the Council's review and confirmation.
Aloha Chair Kimball and Members of the Hawaii County Council,
My name is Brandon Ili. I am submitting this written testimony in support of Communication 73,the
nomination of Chantel Perrin to the Windward Planning Commission, and I ask for your consideration
and confirmation.
As a "mana wahine"and a mother of twelve children,Chantel brings many important perspectives to
the Windward Planning Commission. First, she brings"gender equity"to the commission which is key in
making sure a balanced decision is rendered by the commission. The current makeup of the commission
needs gender equity.
Secondly, and most importantly, Chantel brings to the commission the perspective of a "lay person".As •
a working mother all her life,with twelve children,she knows and understands the struggles of everyday
families in Hawaii. She understands what its like to live paycheck to paycheck, and not knowing how her
family was going to ends meet. She understands, how the opportunities available to local families are
slow dwindling and local family are leaving this state.
Thirdly, her diverse resume of jobs ranging from a development/construction company,which gives her
basic understanding of development and construction, to a community service organization dedicated
to childcare needs,which gives her an in-depth understanding of the obstacles facing Hawaii's families,
gives her a unique perspective that no other planning commissioner can bring to the table. This
diversity also highlights Chanteys ability to quickly learn and adapt to the responsibilities required of
her.
Lastly, I believe that Chantel is more than qualified to sit on this volunteer commission. She will quickly
grow to meet the demands and responsibilities required of her as a commissioner. I therefore ask that
you support and confirm her nomination to the Windward Planning Commission.
