ROLL CALL: Present: Ms. Cindy Evans, Chair Ms. Susan L. K. Lee Loy, Vice Chair Ms. Michelle M. Galimba, Member Mr. Holeka Goro Inaba, Member Ms. Jenn Kagiwada, Member Mr. Matt Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder, Member Ms. Ashley L. Kierkiewicz, Member Ms. Heather L. Kimball, Member Ms. Rebecca Villegas, Member STATEMENTS The Chair directed the Committee to proceed to the next order of business, FROM THE Statements from the Public on Agenda Items. PUBLIC ON AGENDA ITEMS: (There were none.) COMMUNI- The Chair directed the Committee to proceed to the next order of business, CATIONS: Communications. Comm. 54: NOMINATION OF CHRISTOPHER HO TO THE BOARD OF ETHICS From Mayor Mitchell D. Roth, dated January 5, 2023, requesting the Council's review and confirmation. Requires Council Confirmation by: February 18, 2023 (Section 13-4(k) Hawaii County Charter) GOEAC-2 January 24,2023 Vote on Comm. 54: Ms. Lee Loy moved to recommend confirmation of the (Approved) nomination of Mr. Christopher Ho to the Board of Ethics. Seconded by Ms. Galimba and carried by the following voice vote: Ayes: Committee Members Galimba, Inaba, Kagiwada, Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder, Kierkiewicz, Kimball, Lee Loy, Villegas, and Chair Evans —9. Noes: None. Absent: None. Excused: None. Executive Assistant to the Mayor Pomaika`i Bartolome came forward and provided a brief narrative of the nominee's background and experience. Committee Members spoke in favor of the appointment. Comm. 55: NOMINATION OF DESMON HAUMEA TO THE HAWAII COUNTY CULTURAL RESOURCES COMMISSION From Mayor Mitchell D. Roth, dated January 5, 2023, requesting the Council's review and confirmation. Vote on Comm. 55: Ms. Lee Loy moved to recommend confirmation of the (Approved) nomination of Mr. Desmon Haumea to the Hawaii County Cultural Resources Commission. Seconded by Ms. Kimball and carried by the following voice vote: Ayes: Committee Members Galimba, Inaba, Kagiwada, Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder, Kierkiewicz, Kimball, Lee Loy, Villegas, and Chair Evans —9. Committee Members spoke in favor of the appointment. MR. HAUMEA: No disrespect, Ms. Chair, but I would like to make a statement before you adjourn? CHR. EVANS: I'll allow that,please. Page 2 GOEAC-2 January 24,2023 MR HAUMEA: Thank you. I just wanted to share with the Council Members, that Big Island should be the laboratory for self-sustainability through a cultural view. That's one of my positions as a commissioner for the Cultural Resources. I believe that the disparity that's happening in the State of Hawaii, is directly affecting our Big Island from maritime industries as well as food security, but I believe that Big Island is a perfect situation for a laboratory for self-sustainability. And I mahalo you for allowing me to speak. CHR. EVANS_ : Thank you for that comment and the passion. So, all in favor of adjourning?
