A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
HURTS ANIMALS AND PEOPLE TO ASSIST WITH CONSTRUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION OF DOG SHELTERS.
WHEREAS, Domestic Violence Hurts Animals and People (DVHAP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that strives to bring harmony to families and a voice to those who cannot speak through
public policy action and awareness campaigns that educate our children on positive relations with animals; and
WHEREAS, DVHAP operates a community-based project that utilizes recycled wood pallets to build dog houses for low-income households’ island-wide; and
WHEREAS, DVHAP is working to educate and bring awareness to the public on the plight of dogs left out in the elements through working with high school students to build dog shelters;
and
WHEREAS, DVHAP is requesting funding assistance for the materials and the delivery costs for 25 dog shelters to distribute to low-income families to help keep their dogs safely sheltered;
and
WHEREAS, the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney supports this event as it is in keeping with the goals and objectives of the department to support safe and healthy community activities;
and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 2 will be appropriated to the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney to provide
a grant to Domestic Violence Hurts Animals and People group to construct and distribute dog shelters.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
