Aloha Council Members, MD Lee Lord and Mayor Roth,
I am writing to express my concern regarding Bill 22, which addresses the creation of a
structure to house animal control. While this is an important step, I believe that it does not
address the core issues as presented to the community.
As we are all aware, the issue of animal overpopulation is a complex one that requires a
comprehensive approach. While a structure to house animal control is certainly a
necessary component, it is not sufficient on its own to address the root causes of the
problem.
We must take proactive measures to address the root causes of animal overpopulation,
which include promoting spay and neuter programs, educating the public on responsible
animal ownership, and providing support for local animal shelters and rescue
organizations. These measures are essential to reducing the number of animals that end
up in shelters and rescue organizations in the first place.
I urge you to consider these important issues as you move forward with Bill 22. While
creating a structure to house animal control is a necessary-component, it is not sufficient
on its own to address the core issues facing our community.
That comprehensive approach in addressing the issue of,animal overpopulation requires
working together with local government, veterinary services, animal welfare organizations,
and the community to create sustainable solutions that promote the health and wellbeing
of animals and the community at large. I look forward to hearing how the county and the
new agency will begin to take responsibility for this important component of animal
control
