HAWAII COUNTY COUNCIL HEARING =°
MARCH 8, 2023,09:00 c ,
HAWAII COUNTY BUILDING b,
TESTIMONY IN SUPPORT OF RESOLUTION 73-23
.
Dear Chair Kimball,Vice Chairs Goro Inaba and members of the County Council:
I am writing to provide strong support to Resolution 73-23 which reaffirms the County's commitment to
divert on island waste to Yummet's carbon negative proposed plant in order to help the Island of Hawai'i
not only to meet its goals with regards to climate resiliency, renewable energy sustainable agriculture and
zero waste, but to allow the Island of Hawai'i to become a leading role model in these areas.
I met Brittany recently in Hawai'i, however, in spite of not knowing her personally for that long, we have
moved in similar circles in the aerospace industry and I can say without a doubt, that even at her young
age, Ms Zimmerman has accomplished more in this highly competitive industry than many seasoned
engineers will accomplish in their careers.
The project that Yummet is proposing can be a game changer for the island. This technology has the
potential to help us deal with all of our solid waste generated on island. It is no secret that we are facing
a problem with regards to waste management. The Hilo landfill is now closed and we are trucking waste
from Hilo to Kona, that is in no way a long term sustainable solution, and at best is just buying us a few
years. This innovative approach will help create high paying jobs, dispose of our waste and on top of that
produce 4 valuable products that can benefit the island's economy.
I strongly encourage all of you to learn more about this proposal, support it and don't let it be a missed
opportunity for the Island.
