Subject:Testimony against bill 18 -
To whom it may concern,
I am writing to testify against bill 18, which will give preference for housing for government workers.
If the point of this bill is to provide a benefit or incentive for government workers, there are many other creative options
that do not set government workers at an advantage while putting every other tax-paying, law-abiding citizen at a
disadvantage.
If the issue this bill is trying to address is the extreme housing shortage, perhaps instead of spending our time trying to
weasel in preferences for those who have the power to sneak in bills like this,we should work together to create more
affordable housing solutions for EVERYONE, not just create privilege for those who work for the government.
My partner and I both pay taxes in Hawaii, we live and work hard in Hawaii, why should someone who works for the
government be given preference for a home over us? Do we live in Russia?
I am saddened to hear that there are members of the council who would even consider putting this nepotism into law. I
strongly urge every member to oppose this bill vehemently and publicly to make sure everyone who could be affected
by this change made is aware of exactly what is at stake.
Your concerned citizen, Bri
