A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING THE SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO FRIENDS OF THE
FUTURE TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES RELATED TO THE RESTORATION OF THE BOND MEMORIAL PUBLIC LIBRARY IN NORTH KOHALA.
WHEREAS, in November 2014, the Bond Memorial Public Library was named one of the top 10 most endangered historic places in Hawai‘i by the Historic Hawai‘i Foundation, signifying its
historic, cultural, and social value to the community of North Kohala, which it has served since its opening as a public library in 1928; and
WHEREAS, the Bond Memorial Public Library has been vacant since 2010 when the State opened a newly constructed public library in North Kohala; and
WHEREAS, Friends of the Future, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is working in partnership with the organizers of the Bond Memorial Library Restoration Project to rehabilitate the
building into a safe and useable facility where future generations of North Kohala residents may continue to learn about the rich heritage of their community; and
WHEREAS, Friends of the Future is requesting funding assistance to help purchase the necessary signage for the Bond Memorial Public Library; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports this project as it is in keeping with the goals and objectives of the department to support public programs that promote educational
activities in a drug- and alcohol-free environment; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant
to Friends of the Future to assist with expenses related to the restoration of the Bond Memorial Public Library in North Kohala.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
