RESOLUTION NO. 105 23
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HAWAII KEIKI
MUSEUM TO PURCHASE INTERACTIVE SEATING FOR THE MUSEUM'S "OPIHI
LEARNING AREA."
WHEREAS, the Hawai`i Keiki Museum is a 501(c)(3)nonprofit organization that was
created for the purpose of starting a children's science discovery center in West Hawai`i, called
the Hawai`i Keiki Museum("Museum"), and its mission is to inspire curiosity, creativity, and
innovation in children by introducing them to science during their formative years; and
WHEREAS,the Museum teaches keiki that local challenges are also global concerns,
and that climate protection, ocean health research, astronomy studies, and earth science
investigations are all currently being conducted on Hawai`i Island; and
WHEREAS,the Museum's "Opihi Learning Area" is a safe area reserved for keiki up to
two years old where they can play and bond with their parents, kupuna, and caregivers; and
WHEREAS,the Museum is desirous of improving its "Opihi Learning Area"by
providing fun, interactive seating that consists of upholstered furniture segments that"puzzle"
together to serve as seats; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii Keiki Museum is requesting funds to pay for interactive
seating and other miscellaneous expenses related to its "Opihi Learning Area"; and
WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Department of Liquor Control is to support
organizations and programs that promote the health, safety, and welfare of the public in a drug-
and alcohol-free environment, such as the Hawai`i Keiki Museum in Kona; and
WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity,
service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 will be appropriated to the Department of
Liquor Control to provide a grant to the Hawai`i Keiki Museum to purchase interactive seating
for the Museum's "Opihi Learning Area."
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Liquor Control and Director of Finance, and that the Director of
Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this
resolution.
