RESOLUTION NO. 113 23
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HOSPICE OF HILO
FOR ITS 19th ANNUAL CELEBRATION OF LIFE.
WHEREAS, Hospice of Hilo (doing business as Hawai`i Care Choices) is a 501(c)(3)
nonprofit organization that provides medical, social, and spiritual services for terminally ill
patients at their end of life as well as providing support to their families and caregivers; and
WHEREAS, for the past 19 years, Hospice of Hilo has held its annual Celebration of
Life event to raise awareness and provide education regarding end-of-life choices,with this
year's event to be held on May 28, 2023, at Reeds Bay Beach Park; and
WHEREAS, the 19th Annual Celebration of Life is an event to remember loved ones
who have passed—honoring the life they have lived and the lives they have touched, as well as
celebrating the diverse and rich cultural foundation of our island; and
WHEREAS, Hospice of Hilo is requesting funds to help defray the costs of this event,
including, but not limited to, renting equipment for trash disposal, sound system, and staging;
and
WHEREAS,the Department of Liquor Control supports drug-free and alcohol-free
events that enrich the lives of community members; and
WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 2 will be appropriated to the Department of
Liquor Control to provide a grant to Hospice of Hilo for its 19th Annual Celebration of Life
event.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Liquor Control and Director of Finance, and that the Director of
Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this
resolution.
