Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Bill No. 37,reports as follows:
Bill No. 37,transmitted by Finance Director Deanna Sako,via Communication No. 166 dated
March 16, 2023, amends Ordinance No. 22-63, as amended, the Operating Budget for the County of
Hawai`i for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023.
This bill increases revenues in the Fund Balance From Previous Year account($3,500,000), and
appropriates the same to the General Excise Tax Mass Transit Other Current Expenses account.
Funds would be used to cover additional costs related to fixed route operations.
Committee Member Susan L. K. Lee Loy wanted clarification on the increased amount and asked the
administration to provide some answers.
Committee Member Ashley L. Kierkiewicz asked for her colleagues to support this measure moving
forward to Council and suggested they ask the administration to be present at the meeting to answer
questions.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Bill No. 37, and recommends its
passage on first reading.
