i <br /> 3 <br /> i <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAVI STATE OF HAWAII <br /> • <br /> 'eTp Of•NP•f <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 139 23 <br /> si <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT y <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING THE SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE WAIMEA <br /> OUTDOOR CIRCLE TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES RELATED TO THE CONTINUED <br /> MAINTENANCE OF ULU L V AU, THE WAIMEA NATURE PARK. <br /> WHEREAS, Ulu Ld`au,the Waimea Nature Park, is a ten-acre, walkable nature preserve <br /> located in the heart of Waimea town, which is open to the general public at no charge for <br /> everyone to enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, including walking, picnics, native plant <br /> identification, dog walking, and meditating; and <br /> WHEREAS, Ulu Ld`au is also home to the largest collection of`ohi`a lehua, the official <br /> flower of Hawaii Island, further signifying its immense environmental, cultural, recreational, <br /> and scenic value to both the Waimea community and Hawaii County as a whole; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Waimea Outdoor Circle is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization under the <br /> umbrella of The Outdoor Circle, and its mission is to foster environmental preservation and the <br /> enhancement of nature through education and community involvement; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Waimea Outdoor Circle has maintained Ulu Ld`au since 1999 and is <br /> requesting funding assistance to help with necessary expenses including, but not limited to, <br /> landscaping tools and equipment, security services, a portable toilet, and refreshments for <br /> volunteers for the continued maintenance of Ulu Ld'au; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation supports this project as it is in <br /> keeping with the goals and objectives of the department to support areas that are safe and well- <br /> maintained natural environments that meet the recreational needs and interests of Hawaii <br /> County residents; and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to the Waimea Outdoor Circle to assist with expenses <br /> related to the continued maintenance of Ulu Ld`au,the Waimea Nature Park. <br />
