A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING THE SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE WAIMEA OUTDOOR
CIRCLE TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES RELATED TO THE CONTINUED MAINTENANCE OF ULU LĀ‘AU, THE WAIMEA NATURE PARK.
WHEREAS, Ulu Lā‘au, the Waimea Nature Park, is a ten-acre, walkable nature preserve located in the heart of Waimea town, which is open to the general public at no charge for everyone
to enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, including walking, picnics, native plant identification, dog walking, and meditating; and
WHEREAS, Ulu Lā‘au is also home to the largest collection of ‘ōhi‘a lehua, the official flower of Hawai‘i Island, further signifying its immense environmental, cultural, recreational,
and scenic value to both the Waimea community and Hawai‘i County as a whole; and
WHEREAS, the Waimea Outdoor Circle is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization under the umbrella of The Outdoor Circle, and its mission is to foster environmental preservation and the enhancement
of nature through education and community involvement; and
WHEREAS, the Waimea Outdoor Circle has maintained Ulu Lā‘au since 1999 and is requesting funding assistance to help with necessary expenses including, but not limited to, landscaping
tools and equipment, security services, a portable toilet, and refreshments for volunteers for the continued maintenance of Ulu Lā‘au; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation supports this project as it is in keeping with the goals and objectives of the department to support areas that are safe and well-maintained
natural environments that meet the recreational needs and interests of Hawai‘i County residents; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide
a grant to the Waimea Outdoor Circle to assist with expenses related to the continued maintenance of Ulu Lā‘au, the Waimea Nature Park.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
