i <br /> J '\ <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> ,T�•OFNPJ <br /> SOLUTION NO. 1-47 23 <br /> i <br /> € <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A € <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO LALkKEA <br /> FOUNDATION FOR A REIMBURSEMENT OF EXPENSES RELATED TO ITS <br /> BRIDGING PACIFIC CONNECTIONS PROJECT. <br /> WHEREAS, Ldldkea Foundation is a 501(c)(3)nonprofit organization whose mission is <br /> to perpetuate Native Hawaiian arts and spiritual practices, including hula, chant, and attendant art <br /> forms; and <br /> WHEREAS, Ldldkea Foundation is dedicated to the conservation of cultural traditions <br /> and has established connections between Hawaii Island and Aotearoa,New Zealand <br /> communities to provide opportunities for cultural exchange, indigenous educational forums and <br /> learning opportunities; and <br /> i <br /> 3 <br /> WHEREAS, Ldldkea Foundation was asked by The Merrie Monarch Festival to deliver a <br /> formal invitation to the winner of the 2023 Te Matatini Kapa Haka Festival to perform at the 60t" <br /> Annual Merrie Monarch Festival; and <br /> WHEREAS,Ngd Toa Whakaihuwaka performed during the 601"Annual Merrie <br /> Monarch Festival's H6`ike Night and also participated in the Royal Parade, graciously sharing <br /> their cultural with the people of Hawaii; and <br /> WHEREAS, Ldldkea Foundation is requesting funds for a reimbursement of expenses <br /> related to travel transportation, fuel costs, incidentals, and promotional materials for Ngd Toa <br /> Whakaihuwaka; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development supports programs and <br /> community initiatives that engage international, national, and local partners to promote and share <br /> the Native Hawaiian culture and history with Hawaii Island residents and visitors; and <br /> WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Research and Development to provide a grant to Ldldkea Foundation for a reimbursement of <br /> expenses related to its Bridging Pacific Connections Project. <br />
