HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 147 Draft 01 2022-2024A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO LĀLĀKEA FOUNDATION
FOR A REIMBURSEMENT OF EXPENSES RELATED TO ITS BRIDGING PACIFIC CONNECTIONS PROJECT.
WHEREAS, Lālākea Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to perpetuate Native Hawaiian arts and spiritual practices, including hula, chant, and attendant art
forms; and
WHEREAS, Lālākea Foundation is dedicated to the conservation of cultural traditions and has established connections between Hawaiʻi Island and Aotearoa, New Zealand communities to provide
opportunities for cultural exchange, indigenous educational forums and learning opportunities; and
WHEREAS, Lālākea Foundation was asked by The Merrie Monarch Festival to deliver a formal invitation to the winner of the 2023 Te Matatini Kapa Haka Festival to perform at the 60th Annual
Merrie Monarch Festival; and
WHEREAS, Ngā Toa Whakaihuwaka performed during the 60th Annual Merrie Monarch Festival’s Hōʻike Night and also participated in the Royal Parade, graciously sharing their cultural with
the people of Hawai‘i; and
WHEREAS, Lālākea Foundation is requesting funds for a reimbursement of expenses related to travel transportation, fuel costs, incidentals, and promotional materials for Ngā Toa Whakaihuwaka;
and
WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development supports programs and community initiatives that engage international, national, and local partners to promote and share the Native
Hawaiian culture and history with Hawai‘i Island residents and visitors; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to the Department of Research and Development to provide
a grant to Lālākea Foundation for a reimbursement of expenses related to its Bridging Pacific Connections Project.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
