A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION’S
‘IKE PONO-HĀMĀKUA SUMMER FUN PROGRAM IN KULA‘IMANO, PĀPA‘ALOA, AND HONOMŪ.
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation, Recreation Division, provides diversified recreational programs and activities for all age groups that address the needs and interests
of the respective communities in a safe environment at County recreational facilities; and
WHEREAS, the Recreation Division conducts summer fun programs in the districts of Hāmākua, Hilo, Puna, Ka‘ū, Kona, and Kohala in the months of June and July; and
WHEREAS, one of the Hāmākua summer fun programs is ‘Ike Pono-Hāmākua, which is a two-week session to be held at the Kula‘imano Community Center, Pāpa‘aloa Annex, and Honomū Gym for keiki
that have completed third to eighth grade; and
WHEREAS, the ‘Ike Pono-Hāmākua summer fun program will provide youth with specific cultural lessons and life skills through the understanding of sense of place and its history, the importance
of mālama ‘āina, sustainable gardening and moon phases, ocean safety, fish identification, cooking, crafting, and sports activities; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation is requesting funds to purchase equipment and supplies for the kitchen, sports, gardening, crafts, and other related costs to conduct
its ‘Ike Pono-Hāmākua summer fun program; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 1 will be appropriated to the Department of Parks and Recreation for its ‘Ike
Pono-Hāmākua summer fun program in Kula‘imano, Pāpa‘aloa, and Honomū.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
