A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HOSPICE OF HILO
FOR ITS 19TH ANNUAL CELEBRATION OF LIFE EVENT.
WHEREAS, Hospice of Hilo, DBA Hawai‘i Care Choices, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization providing palliative, hospice, and bereavement care to improve the lives of those touched by
illness or grief by offering support, guidance, and compassionate care of the body, mind, and spirit; and
WHEREAS, Hospice of Hilo is hosting the 19th Annual Celebration of Life event on Sunday, May 28, 2023, at Reeds Bay Beach Park to commemorate the lives of loved ones who have passed;
and
WHEREAS, the Celebration of Life is a free community event that includes culturally diverse activities, food, and music, as well as a Lights of Remembrance ceremony that includes the
release of floating luminaries at sunset; and
WHEREAS, Hospice of Hilo is requesting funds to help defray the costs of this event, including, but not limited to, advertising and event supplies; and
WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Department of Parks and Recreation is to provide the public with diversified recreation programs in park facilities that address the needs and interests
of the community in a safe and well-maintained environment; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide
a grant to Hospice of Hilo for its 19th Annual Celebration of Life event.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
