Committee on Legislative Approvals and Acquisitions(LAAO) :.
Aloha LAAO.Members,
Bridge House,Inc. is a small non-profit based in Keauhou mauka and has consistently provided substance
use disorder continuum of care services to our community for more than 30 years. As always, our most
sought after, most needed, and the most critical service is our Clean& Sober Living Transitional housing.
Upon reading the recent Ad Hoc Committee's list of funding recommendations for the 2023-2024 Waiwai
grant,I have comments and a request regarding the recommendation for Bridge House, Inc.
The previous year was a blessing with Bridge House being awarded three fully funded grants. It was an
amazing opportunity for our agency. This year the recommendation is for only one grant, which is
understandable considering the large number of applications received.
Regarding the choice of recommendations for 2023-2024 for Bridge House,we submitted two applications,
one for our Vocational Skills Building Program for$20,000(which is on the recommended list)and a second
for our Clean& Sober Living Transitional Program for$50,000 at our Keauhou mauka location. My
comment is this, during a time of housing crisis on our island, specifically in Dona, and along with the
Governor's emergency proclamation addressing homelessness, it is imperative that our program that provides
housing be the priority choice.
As such, I am requesting for the LAAC,Ad Hoc Committee and Council to please consider funding the
Clean& Sober Living Transitional Program,as opposed to the Vocational Skills Building.
As always,we will appreciate any award amount we receive.
Mahalo for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Comm.
