Subject: Testimony in support of Resolution 91-23
Dear Council Members
My name is George Douvris. Both my wife and I are 71 years old and have had a small
family farm located off of Pohoiki road. After the eruption, most of the farm as well as
our house were covered in lava and our main road access from Pohoiki is still blocked.
We have been able to use a back way to get to a part of our land where we are living in
one of our farm buildings. Our kids had to move to other areas on the island to find work
and places to stay. It remains a hardship for our own personal recovery as long as
Pohoiki road remains closed. Also not having the boat harbor or the park means
nowhere to have a safe place to swim. I hope that you continue to consider our
challenges and make sure these projects are completed asap.
