Aloha,
This resolution provides additional impetus and substantiation to the State of Hawai'i about the importance of
leveraging Federal dollars for restoration of vital services in the burgeoning Puna District. In addition to the economic
role of Pohoiki for the fishing industry, the recreational role should not be overlooked. Many, many local people relied
on Pohoiki as a place to swim and surf. In the absence of other lava-inundated ocean entries like Ahalanui and Wai
'Opae, restoration of Pohoiki is even more critical. Please send this important message to the State legislature before
the opportunity for a substantial Federal match is lost.
