Aloha,
My name is Ilene Cohen Harrington. I am the president and co-founder of Domestic Violence Hurts Animals and
People. We are requesting funding for our Free Dog House program. This program will provide much needed shelter for
low income families with outdoor dogs. As you may be aware, the sun and rain take a toll on our pet dogs when they
are outside without shelter.
This program partners with local high schools with wood shop classes who will be making these dog houses using free
pallets and other purchased materials. The program gives these students skills they will utilize into adulthood and helps
them to understand the needs of our pet animals. The students will become more socially aware.
We are asking that you approve the request for funds so we can move forward with helping outdoor pet dogs. Funding
of this program beyond one council member will allow us to make additional dog houses.
