Subject: Please take action on sewer issues on Alii Drive and 2 step
Aloha
I am a resident of the La Aloa area off of Alii Dr.
I regularly swim in the waters offshore between La Aloa beach park and Kahaluu. I am seeing more abundant coral death and
less fish species in the last few years. I am very worried about the effects of cesspools and septic leach fields in our area.
This area and Kahaluu deserve to be better protected.
Please include a line item for Kahalu'u Bay with ample funding in the 2023-2024 budget to pay for an Environmental Impact
Statement or an Environmental Assessment and engineering plans to get this one mile of sewer line"shovel-ready",to apply
for federal and state funding. Please protect the health of the people and the ocean environment on our island by replacing
cesspools and septics now!
I am also interested in seeing additional protections in the 2 step area.There needs to be better information for visitors
explaining the situation with dolphins and whales, and also how to protect the reef. I think there should be a life guard and
perhaps a beach/water ranger hired to protect this natural resource.
