Honorable Hawai'i County Leadership,
The continuing presence of cesspools immediately along our west side Kona coastline is a public health problem and it is well
past time to take proactive steps to mitigate and eliminate them.You can do this by placing a line item in the upcoming
budget to conduct an environmental assessment and prepare the necessary design and engineering to place city standard
sewer line for the 1-mile stretch of Ali'i drive between Queen Kalama and Kahalu'u Beach Park.The subterranean estuary
effect along this part of the Kona coastline guarantees the presence of unhealthy nutrients being flushed into the coastal
waters with every tide, placing swimmers and sea life at risk,and degrading the overall environment. Having shovel-
ready documentation places this important project in line for sources of funding beyond county resources. Don't wait and
push this critical project into larger infrastructure planning as has been going on now for decades.The resident and tourist
community of West Hawaii depends on leaders like you to take initiative and ensure a more healthy environment.
