Subject: Support for Bill 194 and vote to override Mayor's veto
Aloha Hawaii County Council Members,
I am writing in strong support of Bill 194. I ask that you vote in favor of overriding Mayor Roth's veto.
Bill 194 increases transparency by making zoning extensions a public process rather than an administrative one with little to no
accountability to the public and to the law.Without this measure,special interests can continue to influence land use on our island and
we will continue to struggle with increasing land prices and housing availability.
Lack of transparency and abuse of our lands use laws by developers and politicians, has lead us collectively into a dire situation,
whereby our own people born and raised in Hawai'i cannot afford to remain here any longer,so this lack of transparency is a vailed
attempt to gentrify Hawai'i—that is to forcibly remove our local and Native Hawaiian peoples out of Hawai'i and to move foreigners into
Hawai'i, in a way that ensures our local communities can never recover and be able to return to their home...Hawai'i. This form of
forcible relocation, is a human rights violation and it also violates the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples
(UNDRIP).This Council should not support such violations and instead work to remedy and corrected this form of abuse and lack of
transparency now! .
Please support our voice and pass Bill 194 again.
