Bill 194—Oppose
Aloha County Council of Hawaii Island,
I am strongly opposed to overriding the Mayor's veto and passing Bill 194. Bill 194 creates
unintended consequences in creating additional barriers to housing and in adding additional
uncertainty to the development of housing supply. The only possible result of a successful
passage of this bill would be to give developers yet another reason to build elsewhere.
The residents of Hawaii Island need housing and we need it now. It is hard enough to find
homes with such low inventory of affordable housing and this puts yet another reason for long
delays in being able to find land for new housing. We continue to see our children having to
move elsewhere for better opportunities to invest in a home and live away from where they
grew up.
Please vote no on Bill 194.
