I am writing in support of an override of Mayor Roth's veto of Bill 194.
The virtually automatic approval of extension requests by the unelected Planning Director amounts to ignoring the
Council's(as elected representatives of the people of the County) responsibility to review some significant planning
decisions.
Yes, this may result in more time and more paperwork.
But having the Council provide some minimal oversight of developers' progress is a vital and necessary step to reduce
authoritarian decision-making in County government, can lead to improved land use, and is more important than the
time and paperwork involved.
