STATE OF HAWAII <br /> ........17,:;_-_;-_-_____.4.,..... <br /> t+ .,r+.,... <br /> -Tt OF.H;41 <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 16$ 23 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO KOHANAIKI `OHANA <br /> TO ASSIST WITH THE 19TH ANNUAL ROOTS BODYBOARDING CONTEST AT <br /> WAI`AHA BEACH PARK. <br /> WHEREAS, Kohanaiki `Ghana is a 501(c)(3)nonprofit organization whose mission is to <br /> contribute to the wellbeing of Hawai`i's youth, environmental conservation, and cultural <br /> traditions through sustainable community gatherings on the Island of Hawai`i; and <br /> WHEREAS, Kohanaiki `Ghana, along with Malama Wai`aha and Friends of the Park is <br /> coordinating the 19th Annual Roots Bodyboarding Contest at Wai`aha Beach Park on June 3, <br /> 2023, that is free to the public; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Roots Bodyboarding Contest is a competition that promotes Kohanaiki <br /> `Ohana's mission to involve the community in activities that protect the environment as well as <br /> perpetuate cultural practices and values and teaches our keiki to become stewards of our land and <br /> water resources; and <br /> WHEREAS, Kohanaiki `Ohana is requesting funds to assist with the costs for t-shirts, <br /> hats, reusable water bottles, food service ware, and awards for the 19th Annual Roots <br /> Bodyboarding Contest; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation strives to provide services and <br /> opportunities that meet the needs of Big Island community while maintaining cultural uniqueness <br /> of our rich heritage and diversity, as well as partnering with groups and organizations to improve <br /> and maintain recreational facilities and enhance programs; and <br /> WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used: now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 7 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to Kohanaiki `Ohana to assist with the 19th Annual Roots <br /> Bodyboarding Contest. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
