COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 171 23 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO AHAVA `AINA TO <br /> HOST A TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT GROUP CALLED DISCONNECT TO <br /> RECONNECT. <br /> WHEREAS,Ahava `Aina is a 501(c)(3)nonprofit organization with the mission to <br /> tikkun olam,to heal the world, and to be of service as it shares the Jewish culture and traditions <br /> with the community and all beings; and <br /> WHEREAS, there is an ongoing epidemic of technology addiction, and recent studies <br /> show that technology overuse can negatively impact brain development, which can affect social <br /> skills,relationships, and mental health, as well as expose children to inappropriate content; and <br /> WHEREAS, Ahava `Aina will be offering a technology support group for those between <br /> the ages of 12 and 25, called Disconnect to Reconnect, to address the growing addiction and <br /> misuse of cell phones,the interne, and social media; and <br /> WHEREAS,the focus of Disconnect to Reconnect will be to create a technology-, drug-, <br /> and alcohol-free environment for youth and young adults to connect and create meaningful <br /> relationships as they learn about the risks associated with technology and social media overuse <br /> and how to create healthy boundaries; and <br /> WHEREAS, Ahava `Aina will waive the session fee for those in need of financial <br /> support to allow participation regardless of income; and <br /> WHEREAS, Ahava `Aina is requesting funding assistance for costs associated with <br /> public outreach, session fee waivers,printing handouts, and providing journals,pens, and healthy <br /> refreshments for participants; and <br /> WHEREAS,the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney supports this initiative as it is in <br /> keeping with the goals and objectives of the department to encourage early intervention activities <br /> and support community activities that promote public safety; and <br /> WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, <br /> service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 2 will be appropriated to the Office of the <br /> Prosecuting Attorney to provide a grant to Ahava `Aina to host a technology support group <br /> called Disconnect to Reconnect. <br />
