HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 168 Draft 01 2022-2024A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO KOHANAIKI ‘OHANA
TO ASSIST WITH THE 19TH ANNUAL ROOTS BODYBOARDING CONTEST AT WAI‘AHA BEACH PARK.
WHEREAS, Kohanaiki ‘Ohana is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to contribute to the wellbeing of Hawai‘i’s youth, environmental conservation, and cultural traditions
through sustainable community gatherings on the Island of Hawai‘i; and
WHEREAS, Kohanaiki ‘Ohana, along with Malama Wai‘aha and Friends of the Park is coordinating the 19th Annual Roots Bodyboarding Contest at Wai‘aha Beach Park on June 3, 2023, that is
free to the public; and
WHEREAS, the Roots Bodyboarding Contest is a competition that promotes Kohanaiki ‘Ohana’s mission to involve the community in activities that protect the environment as well as perpetuate
cultural practices and values and teaches our keiki to become stewards of our land and water resources; and
WHEREAS, Kohanaiki ‘Ohana is requesting funds to assist with the costs for t-shirts, hats, reusable water bottles, food service ware, and awards for the 19th Annual Roots Bodyboarding
Contest; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation strives to provide services and opportunities that meet the needs of Big Island community while maintaining cultural uniqueness of our
rich heritage and diversity, as well as partnering with groups and organizations to improve and maintain recreational facilities and enhance programs; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used: now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 7 will be appropriated to the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide
a grant to Kohanaiki ‘Ohana to assist with the 19th Annual Roots Bodyboarding Contest.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
