This grant will be used to repair the roof of the Native Hawaiian Hale at Kohanaiki Beach Park through their Ka Hale Wa`a o Wawahiwa`a Kohanaiki Beach Park project. Enclosed is a resolution authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide $48,000 to `Ohana o Kohanaiki Cultural Foundation, pursuant to Hawaii County Code (2016 Edition as amended) Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-139(a)(3)(A). BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED), The Department of Parks and Recreation would like to provide a $48,000 grant to 'Ghana o Kohanaiki Cultural Foundation for their Ka Hale Wa'a o Wawahiwa'a Kohanaiki Beach Park project, The project entails the use of traditional methods fo thatching Loulu (fan palm)fronds to repair the roof of the Native Hawaiian Hale at Kohanaiki Beach Park, The Hale is part of the cultural and educational complex in the area and this repair will ensure continued cultural education, skills and arts.
