WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-139(a)(3)(A) of the Hawaii
County Code (2016 Edition as amended) states, Grant awards in excess of$25,000
to nonprofit organizations shall specifically identify the organization receiving the
grant funds and the purpose for which the grant funds shall be used in an ordinance
or resolution; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-136(5) of the Hawaii County
Code states, "nonprofit organization" means an organization organized for other than
profit-making purposes and which has a current 501(c)3 tax-exemption from the
Internal Revenue Code; and
WHEREAS, `Ghana o Kohanaiki Cultural Foundation, which qualifies as a
nonprofit organization as defined above, will implement their Ka Hale Wa`a o
Wawahiwa`a Kohanaiki Beach Park project; and
WHEREAS, this project entails the use of traditional methods of thatching
Loulu (fan palm) fronds to repair the roof of the Native Hawaiian Hale at Kohanaiki
Beach Park; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation wishes to provide
$48,000 to `Ohana o Kohanaiki Cultural Foundation; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII, in
accordance with Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-139(a)(3)(A) of the Hawaii County
Code, the Department of Parks and Recreation is authorized to provide a grant of
$48,000 to `Ohana o Kohanaiki Cultural Foundation to provide services as indicated
above.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk of the County of Hawaii
shall transmit copies of this resolution to the Office of the Management, the Finance
Department, and the Department of Parks and Recreation.
