A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRINGIAPPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO EXPAND THE SIGNAGE AT THE EDITH
KANAKA`OLE MULTI-PURPOSE STADIUM TO INCLUDE "HOME OF THE
MERRIE MONARCH FESTIVAL."
WHEREAS, the Merrie Monarch Festival is an annual event that perpetuates the
memory and legacy of King David Kaldkaua through an internationally renowned celebration of
hula and Hawaiian culture; and
WHEREAS, the past 60 festivals have been held in and around the Edith Kanaka`ole
Multi-Purpose Stadium within the Ho`olulu Complex, and the festival includes an invitational
arts fair, cultural demonstrations, hula performances, and a parade that showcases the many
cultures of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation is requesting funds for expenses
related to expanding the signage at the Edith Kanaka`ole Multi-Purpose Stadium to designate the
stadium as the "Home of the Merrie Monarch Festival"; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation provides and facilitates a wide
variety of services to meet the needs of the community while maintaining the cultural uniqueness
of Hawai`i's rich heritage, diversity, and the aloha spirit; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 3 will be appropriated to the Department of
Parks and Recreation to expand the signage at the Edith Kanaka`ole Multi-Purpose Stadium to
include "Home of the Merrie Monarch Festival."
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below.

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Parks and Recreation and Director of Finance, and that the Director
of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of
this resolution.
