Aloha Council Chair Kimball and Council Members:
I am pleased to nominate Mr. Samuel Plunkett Jr. of District 9 to the Public Access, Open Space,
and Natural Preservation Commission.
Mr. Plunkett holds an impressive academic record, having completed a Master of Arts in
Heritage Management from the University of Hawaii at Hilo in May 2018. In addition to his
academic achievements, Mr. Plunkett has actively engaged in research and internships.
Mr. Plunkett has demonstrated his commitment to community engagement and service through
his role as a board member of the University of Hawaii at Hilo Community Advisory Board,
and a former Section Lead of Natural and Cultural Resources for the County of Hawaii,
Planning Department. His active involvement in the community showcases his dedication to
promoting and preserving cultural heritage for the benefit of present and future generations. If
confirmed, he will be filling a resignation seat and serve a term ending December 31, 2025.
