A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING A APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO INTERFAIT
COMMUNITIES IN ACTION FOR ITS FUN WALK FUNDRAISER FOR HABITAT
FOR HUMANITY HAWAII ISLAND.

WHEREAS, Interfaith Communities in Action is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that
was established in 1999 to address the social needs of our community and to help end family
homelessness on Hawaii Island; and

WHEREAS, Interfaith Communities in Action has established a fund, Hale ka Po`e 4
Keiki (Homes for Children), to be awarded each year to an organization or group committed to
creating affordable housing, with the 2023 awardee being Habitat for Humanity Hawaii Island;
and
WHEREAS, Interfaith Communities in Action is hosting a Fun Walk fundraiser
scheduled for August 12, 2023, at the Edith Kanaka`ole Multi-Purpose Stadium, which will be a
free, family-friendly, community event that seeks to raise awareness and funds to help end
family homelessness; and
WHEREAS, Interfaith Communities in Action is requesting funds to defray the costs for
this event, which includes expenses for media marketing, facility rental fees, and participant gift
bags; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation supports this event as it is in
keeping with the goals and objectives of the department to provide a diversified recreation
program that addresses the needs and interest of the respective communities in a safe
environment; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 2 will be appropriated to the Department of
Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to Interfaith Communities in Action for its Fun Walk
fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity Hawaii Island.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Parks and Recreation and Director of Finance, and that the Director
of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of
this resolution.
