Imposing a requirement for EV charging stations would require additional land and thereby increase development costs. Finally, increase capital and operating costs will impact the feasibility of building retail service stations with less throughput that are typical in smaller communities. Gas stations do not have the economic scale to absorb nor pass on to customers the cost of installing and maintaining charging stations. While we can understand the measure, applying the rationale of gas station fueling is not the same thing as EV charging station fueling. We believe this measure is unnecessary and has the potential to distract from the more urgent needs of the community including sewer, electric, water, and housing infrastructure. Thank you for allowing HEMA the opportunity to submit testimony on this bill.
