Dear Chair Kimball, Vice Chair Inaba and members of the Hawaii County Council,
Ls)
We are a 52 year-old family-owned and operated ocean tourism business here in Kona. We
support Bill 48 that amends the Hawaii County Code to create a new chapter relating to
sustainability. climate, equity and resilience. This bill is the legislative framework to start up the
Office of Sustainability, Climate, Equity and Resilience (OSCER). •
Our business with 40 employees depend on our natural resources and need them to be healthy
and viable to meet our lifestyle needs for decades and centuries to come. Our governments are
30 years late to the table to save our planet from the negative impacts caused by climate
change. This office should be created and funded in order to catch up with the best practices
being used in other parts of the world.
Hawaii is a very special place and as an island we are more vulnerable than the continents. This
bill can be the organized force to achieve resilience, recover from the damage done, protect and
preserve what is still able to be saved of our fragile environment.
Please vote in favor of Bill 48.
Sincerely,
/ 4/
RQ
