Aloha,
I'm submitting the passage below in support of Bill 48 on the Office of Sustainability, Climate, Equity and Resilience.
"Aloha to the Council,
My name is Evan Lam and I work as a social entrepreneur in sustainability. I'm responsible for initiatives like Circlepack
and the Hawaii Island Gigatonne team. Dealing with our climate problems is a way to find opportunities which can also
help reverse wealth inequity, stabilize our societies, and restore our precious natural resources, upon which all life is
dependent. It is critical that the County of Hawai'i take an active role by implementing sustainability measures across
county operations,funding climate-focused research and development, and act upon greenhouse gas emissions, water
preservation, and assisting energy diversification and overall reductions. Establishing an office is the first step towards
joining a global wave of action, ensuring the department upholds its purpose is another, longer set of steps which the
County-as a whole-must work to preserve. Present and future generations on this island depend on it.
Please pass this bill.
