Your Committee on Finance,to which was referred Resolution No. 202-23, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 202-23,transmitted by Finance Director Deanna Sako, via Communication No. 359
dated June 29, 2023, authorizes the acceptance of a grant award of$200,000 from Hawaii Community
Foundation to support Financial Empowerment Services.
Funds would be used to support no-cost financial and ownership counseling provided by a certified
United States Department of Housing and Urban Development counseling service provider.
Committee Chair Matt Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder asked Housing and Community Development Specialist
Sharon Hirota for a brief overview of this measure.
Committee Member Ashley L. Kierkiewicz thanked Ms. Hirota for all her efforts in acquiring these
funds, especially during the pandemic. She asked Ms. Hirota how the community can access these
services. Ms. Hirota said they may access services via the Office of Housing and Community
Development website or contact Hawaii Community Assets directly.
Pursuant to Chapter 2,Article 30, Section 2-162{a} of the Hawaii County Code, the Council of the
County of Hawaii may accept this grant award.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 202-23, and
recommends its adoption.
