Your Committee on Legislative Approvals and Acquisitions, to which was referred Resolution
No. 207-23,reports as follows:
Resolution No. 207-23, transmitted by Council Member Holeka Goro Inaba, via Communication
No. 374, dated July 6, 2023, awards a Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation
Maintenance Fund Stewardship Grant to Kohanaiki `Ghana.
This resolution would approve a grant of$38,220 to Kohanaiki `Ohana, a 501(c)(3)nonprofit
organization to protect, preserve, and restore the `O`oma Beach property in North Kona, (Tax Map
Key: 7-3-009-0004), pursuant to Section 10-16(h) of the Hawai`i County Charter.
Chair Inaba relinquished the chair to Vice Chair Galimba. Chair Inaba said that this organization does
good work at 'O'oma and Kohanaiki Beach Park and asks for everyone's support.
Maxine Cutler from the Department of Finance spoke highly in favor of this stewardship grant and
further stated that she was impressed with their plantings and restoration of the trail, and highly
recommends them for multi-year grants. Karen Eoff, representing Kohanaiki `Ohana, was in attendance
in Kona Council Chambers for questions. Several Council Members spoke in favor of this award.
Pursuant to Sections 10-16(g) and (h) of the Hawai`i County Charter, maintenance fund stewardship
grants may be awarded by resolution for the public safety maintenance and preservation of properties
acquired through the Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Fund.
Your Committee on Legislative Approvals and Acquisitions is in accord with the purpose and intent of
Resolution No. 207-23, and recommends its adoption.
