Your Committee on Legislative Approvals and Acquisitions, to which was referred Resolution
No. 208-23, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 208-23, transmitted by Council Member Michelle Galimba, via Communication
No. 375, dated July 14, 2023, awards a Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation
Maintenance Fund Stewardship Grant to Hawai`i Wildlife Fund.
This resolution would approve a grant of$15,748 to Hawai`i Wildlife Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
organization for protection of native wildlife and preservation of the Kahuku Coastal Property in Ka`u,
(Tax Map Key: 9-2-001:075), pursuant to Section 10-16(h) of the Hawai`i County Charter.
Maxine Cutler from the Depailiuent of Finance spoke in favor of this nonprofit and stated that their
work protects the hawksbill turtle.
Pursuant to Sections 10-16(g) and (h) of the Hawai`i County Charter,maintenance fund stewardship
grants maybe awarded by resolution for the public safety maintenance and preservation of properties
acquired through the Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Fund.
Your Committee on Legislative Approvals and Acquisitions is in accord with the purpose and intent of
Resolution No. 208-23, and recommends its adoption.
