Your Committee on Legislative Approvals and Acquisitions,to which was referred Resolution
No. 209-23, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 209-23, transmitted by Council Member Michelle Galimba, via Communication
No. 376, dated July 14, 2023, awards a Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation
Maintenance Fund Stewardship Grant to Ho`omalu
This resolution would approve a grant of$28,000 to Ho`omalu Ka`u, a 501(c)(3)nonprofit organization
for public safety maintenance and preservation of the Kahua `Olohu, Kaunamano Property in Ka`u,
(Tax Map Key: 9-5-012:005),pursuant to Section 10-16(h) of the Hawai`i County Charter.
Council Member Galimba asked for everyone's support. Maxine Cutler from the Department of
Finance was present in Hilo Chambers and spoke of the nonprofit's diligence and stated that this
property is well cared for and manicured.
This resolution was amended with the contents of Communication 376.1, introduced by Council
Member Michelle Galimba and approved by the Council, to remove Kaunamano from the resolution.
Pursuant to Sections 10-16(g) and (h) of the Hawai`i County Charter, maintenance fund stewardship
grants may be awarded by resolution for the public safety maintenance and preservation of properties
acquired through the Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Fund.
Your Committee on Legislative Approvals and Acquisitions is in accord with the purpose and intent of
Resolution No. 209-23, and recommends its adoption.
