Dear Council members,
we wholeheartedly support this Resolution,the expansion of the Pahoa Post Office infrastructure is long overdue.
The population in the area served by the Pahoa Post Office has been constantly growing for many years,as far as we know
Puna is the fastest growing area population wise in Hawaii,and the Post Office is too small, and has been too small for years.
Having to wait in queue for up to 2 hours or more happens frequently, everybody dreads having to go to the Post Office.
It is also totally unfair that a few subdivisions get street delivery while the rest does not. In fact,the Post Office refuses to add
them to their the street delivery service. How can a federal agency treat mail box recipients served by the same local Post
Office so differently?
These not-with-street-delivery-served subdivisions have to install mailbox clusters, at their own cost. But parcels don't fit in
regular mailboxes,they have to be picked up in person at the Pahoa Post Office,with the above mentioned unreasonable long
wait times.
The Pahoa Post Office under-serves a rural area, many people order things online,a trend that increased considerably during
Covid and has not stopped since. With more and more retailers closing down, buying online is often the only option for us to
get needed items.Which means having to get in line at the Pahoa Post Office to pick up our packages.
