Subject: Bill 59 home exemptions
Aloha council members,
I'm assuming that Bill 59 is written to say that people over 75 should receive the 110,000 exemption and those over 80
years old receive$125,000. If it does,. I support Bill 59 and the effort to help make housing and life more affordable for
seniors. It seems appropriate, however, that there be some sort of means testing to insure that taxpayers aren't
subsidizing multi-millionaires and/or those with second residences either in Hawaii or elsewhere.The parameters and
means testing should be generous and not burdensome to the county, but the amounts of the exemptions represent
quite a lot of revenue being removed'from county coffers, so they deserve some sort of reasonable and, again, generous
limits as life's costs have become increasingly more difficult to finance for those on a fixed or moderate income or
modest savings.
