OJ�tY OF,,, <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAI`I • m-.' / • STATE OF HAWAI`I <br /> J,rf OF•NF'� <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 225 23 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE FRIENDS OF <br /> FIRST RESPONDERS TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES FOR APPRECIATION WEEKS <br /> IN 2024. <br /> WHEREAS, in 1974 President Gerald Ford declared the first"National Emergency <br /> Medical Services Week"to honor those who provide both help and hope when tragedy strikes <br /> our communities; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Friends of First Responders (FOFR) is working in collaboration with <br /> our island first responder agencies, which includes but is not limited to,police, fire, emergency <br /> medical services, corrections, sheriffs,park rangers, and Civil Defense to support the <br /> Appreciation Weeks in 2024; and <br /> WHEREAS, Public Safety Telecommunications Week will be held April 14-20, 2024; <br /> Corrections Week on May 5-11, 2024; Police Week on May 12-18, 2024; and Emergency <br /> Medical Services (EMS) on May 19-24, 2024; and <br /> WHEREAS, FOFR is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is committed to providing <br /> support and resources to strengthen the health and wellness of first responders and their families; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, FOFR is requesting funds to assist with expenses toward "Appreciation <br /> Weeks" in 2024, for Police, EMS, Corrections and Public Safety Telecommunications to <br /> acknowledge, honor and commend first responders in Hawai`i County; and <br /> WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Police Department is to provide critical stress <br /> management and support for peer units and personnel for the overall well-being of first <br /> responders; and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 will be appropriated to the Police Department <br /> to provide a grant to the Friends of First Responders to assist with expenses for Appreciation <br /> Week in 2024. <br />
