Re: Resolution Creating Positions •
Enclosed is a resolution creating one new Battalion Chief position and three new Fire
Helicopter Pilot positions for the Hawaii County Fire Department. These positions are
necessary to transition away from contracting services and to better control the resources
and staffing of the Emergency Operations Division.

Creation of three (3) Fire Helicopter Pilot Positions and a Battalion Chief Position. i

B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
The Hawaii Fire Department is transitioning our pilot from a contract to county positions for better
control of resources and staffing. To complete this transition Hawaii Fire department needs to add
an additional three helicopter pilot positions under Home Department 4200.
Addtionally we would like to create an additional Battalion Chief Position for Air Operations also
under Home Dept. 4200.
Positions are already funded under current expenditures and no additional funding is needed for this
change. The Department of Finance has approved the creation of these positions. The Department
of Human Resources has completed and approved the review of the Pilot Position Job Descriptions.
Once these position numbers have been approved and allocated we will move ahead with the
transition for these positions.
