Greetings to Chair Kimball and to all of the Members of Hawaii County Council
I am writing in SUPPORT of Resolution No. 216-23—to grant funds to provide a "Celebratep (7),
'Ohana Festival" in West Hawai'i. 4`ti,
Did you know:
More than 85% of brain development occurs from birth to age 5 and experiences in these early
years will influence a keiki's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
When keiki are provided a strong early learning experience: ="`
• They are better prepared for kindergarten —and that has long-lasting impacts on their
future education.
• Can have long-lasting effects on their success and health as children, teens, and
adults.
• They grow up to be successful adults—which has long-lasting effects on the community
as a whole.
Never before have early learning providers and resource agencies come together in West
Hawaii under one roof so your generous support of our Early Learning 'Ohana Festival will allow
early learning professionals the opportunity to:
• Showcase their program(s)
• Recruit keiki to increase enrollment
• Recruit staff for workforce development
• Network with other learning professionals
There will ample opportunity for'ohana to learn and gain awareness of early learning
resources and community supports that are available to their keiki and families.
While there—we hope they will also learn from and enjoy our community agencies, health and
wellness organizations and other groups offerings that will be on site.
Therefore, again, please support Resolution No. 216-23
