Subject: Support for Bill 56
I am writing in support of the resolution 223-23 to provide further insurance for residents and
commercial operations in Lava Zones 1 and 2.
However, I do want to point out this paragraph:
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Hawaii State Legislature, Department of Commerce
Consumer Affairs, Insurance Division, and Hawaii Property Insurance Association( HPIA), explore
various means of assisting affected residents, including: a) increasing HPIA policy premiums and
expanding coverage to include commercial businesses
This may be a mistake or not taken correctly, but we don't want HPIA to increase the policy
premiums as they are already costing homeowners upwards to 6 or 7 thousand dollars a
year. Perhaps it was meant to say "increasing the availability" ?? Which would be more of an
accurate statement.
But I do support the Resolution.
