Aloha,
My name is Daysha Mendes, and I fully support Resolution 223-23. It is hard to imagine anyone who wouldn't support a
resolution that aims to provide affordable insurance options, especially during these challenging times.
I have been a homeowner in lava zone 2 for over 15 years. Until recently, I was fortunate enough to have affordable fire
insurance through Universal Properties. However,they have decided to withdraw from Hawaii.As a result, my insurance
premiums will skyrocket from$1500 to$5000 under the State,which is the only available option for me.The impact this
will have on me, my family, and others residing in lava zones 1&2 is beyond comprehension.
As a kanaka maoli, I implore the authorities to seek affordable solutions that will enable us to remain in our homes and
prevent us from being priced out of paradise, as many others already have.
