'517 From: Sari Starr Sent: Sunday, August 13, 2023 8:18 AM To: Council Testimony Subject: Support for Bill 56 w C3C Aloha e I own a home here in Pahoa, Opihikau As of recent changes my insurance company has decided to cancel my insurance 'a,, .: And state insurance is close to if not at 10K a year How is the government allowing this for lava 1 and 2? Furthermore my home is insured as a commercial property because it offers housing for people via rental agreements so now my income is severely threatened as there is no insurance covering for this. Are we not a lower income community? Are we not meant to be rebuilding and growing Puna for our Ohana as well as visitors? This is highway robbery and we are being taken advantage of as we paid these insurance companies millions only to leave us high and dry Is there a reason that they are pulling out and the rates from the State have gone up so much? Is there something we don't know? Insurance should have gone down not up. Living on an island puts everyone at risk not just the lava zones as we have seen in Maui This is a very harsh way to treat Ohana to squeeze the community after working so hard to rebuild post 2018 We demand equal consideration as the rest of the island and assistance from the state to provide affordable insurance that covers all emergency acts of nature. So now that we are no longer in emergency recovery status the state then is taking advantage of the people? This needs to be remedied for us to have faith that the system is here for us not in spite of us Mahalo Sari Starr This message and any attachments are solely for the use of intended recipients.
